Second Annual Paws for Kindness Day
Saturday, May 13, 2006
Lansdowne Municipal Parking Lot
Animal Friends of Lansdowne hosted its second annual Paws for Kindness Day featuring many family-oriented, fun activities, while also promoting education and awareness about serious animal-related issues. There was a variety of food, live music, dog trainers, and items for sale. At noon, a pet parade was held with prizes for all who participated. Activities for children included face painting, balloon animals, crafts, and a drawing contest.
During the morning hours, the weather looked as if it would hold out for us. Unfortunately, however, the skies opened up at around 1:30 with heavy thundershowers, forcing an early closing. Hopefully we'll have better luck next year!
AFL hosted a table at The Third Annual Lansdowne Arts Festival on September 17th and 18th, 2005, where great information on Pet Disaster Plans was available, new members joined & a great time was had by all. Check out the Arts Festival Homepage.
Paws for Kindness Day
Sponsored by Animal Friends of Lansdowne
Saturday, May 7, 2005
Lansdowne Municipal Parking Lot
Paws for Kindness Day was created as a way to bring attention and awareness to animal issues affecting Lansdowne and both its four-legged and two-legged residents, and to raise money for Animal Friends of Lansdowne to begin its activities. We invited local animal rescue groups to attend. Two local animal rescue groups, Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society (PALS) andthe Animal Coalition of Delaware County (ACDC),came with pets available for adoption.Dog trainers also attended, a dog agility course was demonstrated, and a police K-9 unit also provideddemonstrations with their dogs.
In addition, Animal Friends of Lansdowne set up booths for sanitation issues, pet sitter and dog park sign-up sheets, food and bake sales, tee shirt sales with a specially-designed shirt for the event, and flea market tables (with no fleas, please). We distributed our literature, made lots of new friends and good contacts, signed up new members and received many generous donations. All of the pets and people who attended had a great time, and we met our objectives for the day. This will certainly become an annual event based on our first experience.
